Who We Are

My name is Rayana, and with Erika we run a small ReFinishing and Custom Built furniture business. We work on pieces we find ourselves, and we're always looking for new ones to transform. We also take on furniture our customers already own, giving tired pieces a fresh finish or a new look altogether.

Every piece of furniture tells a story, and our work begins by listening to what each item has to say. Some pieces arrive with decades of wear, their surfaces marked by the lives they have supported. Others are blank slates, raw wood waiting to become something meaningful. We approach each project with the same careful attention, studying the grain, the joinery, and the original craftsmanship before deciding on the best path forward. Our process respects the history of each piece while giving it new purpose. Whether stripping away layers of old paint or applying a fresh stain, we work methodically to reveal the beauty that was always there beneath the surface.

The transformation of a piece of furniture is never rushed. From the initial sanding through to the final coat of finish, each stage has its own rhythm and requirements. We prepare surfaces thoroughly, knowing that the quality of what lies beneath determines how well the finish will hold over time. Stains are applied and adjusted until the color feels right. Sealants and topcoats follow, each layer allowed to cure properly before the next begins. This patience is what separates a finish that merely looks good from one that will endure daily use for years to come, developing a gentle patina rather than showing premature wear.

Our workshop is where raw materials meet skilled hands. We work with a variety of woods, each species bringing its own character and challenges. Oak offers bold grain patterns that reward open-pore finishing techniques. Walnut provides deep, warm tones that shift beautifully in changing light. Maple accepts stains evenly and creates clean, modern surfaces. Beyond wood, we also handle pieces that combine metal, glass, or upholstery elements, adapting our methods to suit mixed materials. Every project teaches us something new about how different finishes interact with different surfaces, and we carry those lessons forward into every subsequent piece we touch.

We believe that well-finished furniture should be lived with, not just looked at. A proper finish withstands the heat of a coffee cup, resists the moisture of a wiped counter, and handles the occasional bump from a passing vacuum cleaner. Our goal is always durability alongside beauty, creating surfaces that age gracefully rather than requiring constant careful handling. This philosophy extends to the pieces we build from scratch, where we design with real life in mind. Drawers glide smoothly, joints stay tight through seasonal humidity changes, and edges are eased just enough to feel comfortable under daily use. Good furniture earns its place in a home by being useful as well as beautiful.

We enjoy sharing our process along the way, from sanding and staining to the final reveal, and you can see examples of our work across the site's project galleries.
